Do's
- Do have your septic tank pumped out and inspected every two to four years to maintain proper performance.
- Do keep a record of all pumping, inspections and maintenance.
- Do dispose of only household wastes and toilet tissue.
- Do use liquid detergents rather than powder.
- Do seed leach field area with low water grasses, such as buffalo or prairie grass.
- Do divert greywater sources from the septic system (ie: roof downspouts, and sump pump drains, etc.).
Don'ts
- Don't allow kitchen grease into system or any other nondegradable.
- Don't dispose of any chemicals down your drains. Doing so will contaminate your system and ground water.
- Don't use chemical additives to maintain proper function of system.
- Don't drive or build on leach field.
- Don't install sprinkler systems or landscaping over leach field area.
